The 2026 Week 2 Restoration Works
The volunteers were hitting their stride in week 2 with visitor flow through the Bakery growing and Stonework and clean-up work around site progressing well. Work on the NSU 62 signwriting was looking great and the replica Ticket Office was taking shape.
Week 2 saw a visit from the ABC people from ABC North and West. Two crews visited, with the Radio guys doing the live breakfast show from the Cafe area of the bakery, and the TV crew filming and interviewing for an ABC News item which was broadcast a couple of weeks later. We provided them with some of our drone footage of the Bakery and the main street of Farina to use in the news item.
After an initial visit to Farina, Chairman Bill returned home and visited Quirky Cots to pick up another load of dried fruit to bring up to Farina when he returned. He took with him a couple of our famous heavy fruit loaves to show them where some of the fruit goes. Prior to leaving Farina Bill also turned his hand to being a washing machine repairer to keep the old Twin-tub washing machine going.
Stonework continued in week 2 at the New Police Station on North Terrace. The Stonemasons identified the defects that required repairs and then the stonies got stuck in to undertake the repairs, and also went around capping the walls to stop the rain getting in, and finally repointing where the mortar at deteriorated. As always they had a lot of fun along the way laughing and joking with each other.
