Newsletter 57, May 18, 2016

Hello Farina Supporters.

We are now on the countdown for Farina 2016, our EIGHTH annual programme. As well as creating history we are making our own!

Some dates and items of importance, in no particular order:
Please create and bring your own name tag, emphasising your Christian name.
Expect pleasant temperatures during the daytime but be prepared for the “chill” to strike at 3 am.

A parka is a standard garment when you stay late around the campfire.
Good walking shoes/working boots are normal kit, together with gardening gloves.

Saturday June 18th is looming as a special day

10 am Our international, inter district and volunteers cricket challenge will commence for the original 1875 trophy, presently held by the volunteers. Be ready to join our team!

4.30 pm A war memorial ceremony will be held with RAAF 10 Squadron, recognising the joint Australia/ France co-operation in 1940 with Farina’s Flight Lieutenant John Bell’s historic committent. This will be an annual commemoration. (If you don’t already know the story of John Bell you can read about it here: )

5.30 pm Host Martin MacLennan and his team will present delicious delicacies at a dinner for all.

This will also be a Farina Open Day with guided tours for visitors.

Our new Operations Centre and work shops will be developed during this programme. Significant rack storage is being built. To get this operational we invite volunteers to assist in the creation of an efficient storage system. Would you please contribute ONE storage box per family towards this system.

The standard unit we need initially is a BUNNINGS item, EZY storage 40 – 42 litre tub.

You will be able to watch or participate in the development of this special facility during your stay. It will make us so much more efficient.

Volunteer Support this year is, once again, outstanding. You are each one of 155 “on the ground participators” and we have a role for each and every one of you.

There are still some placement opportunities in weeks 4, 6 ,7 and 8.

Your respective team leaders are:
Weeks 1 and 2 Tom Harding and Ken Blackman
Weeks 3 and 4 Martin and Jo MacLennan
Weeks 5 and 6 Steve Harding and Kath Berridge
Weeks 7 and 8 Bob Brownlee and Bob and Shirley Murray

Any late communication

If Tom, Bob or Martin don’t respond to your needs contact Kevin or Anne Dawes at Farina Station 08 8675 7790 or Cathie on this email address who will help or relay details.

This is not necessarily the last communique!

We will see you on site soon.

If you have NOT received your Volunteer Information for 2016 please contact Cathie immediately.

Best Wishes

Tom Harding and the Farina Restoration Group Committee
