Cathy Carey On Visit To Site
I have been wondering how the Restoration work at FARINA went in 2011. I was disappointed that I could not be there, but I was so pleased to get a phone call on the Saturday evening from Fr. Chris O’Neil to say he was going to Farina to bless the site. He had visited Mons. Victory, who had told him about Farina.
I do not personally know Fr. Chris, but he is a very popular Priest.
I can’t believe that the day John, my husband and I decided to turn and go back into the Farina Ruins when we saw the Farina sign on our way home from our trip to Roxby Downs and Maree, that I would in some small way share in the Restoration History group of Farina.
I love the Newsletters and hearing of the excellent work you and your Group do and have done at Farina. It is a fascinating place and with an exciting story and I am delighted to hear about the recognition of the Catholic Church Site.
Mons. Victory has read the Newsletters and been interested in what you are doing and is so pleased with the recognition you have given to the RC Church. I told him about the Street signage and he was delighted to hear all about it.
We belong to the Diocese of Port Pirie, where our Bishop Greg O’Kelly SJ lives. It stretches from Snowtown in the South to the N.T. Border and across to the W.A. Border, so Farina is part of the Diocese of Pt. Pirie.
On another matter I took a photo of a truck that that has been restored and the history written about it at our Steam and Traction Rally that is held here at Booleroo Centre each year. The truck was used to cart goods from Farina to Mission places. The owner of it now lives at Quorn. If you are interested in the picture I can email it to you. I was surprised to see it featured on the day and to discover that it was originally from Farina.
